About the Central Visayas Studies Center
The Central Visayas Studies Center (CVSC) is the research arm of the University of the Philippines Cebu. Since its institution in 1999, CVSC has been doing its mandate, which is to be the main resource center where the multidisciplinary expertise of UP Cebu’s faculty is tapped to provide a more holistic approach to understanding problems and issues affecting the province and the region. Through the years, CVSC has fulfilled its function of promoting the research culture in the university, calling for applications for research and creative work grants, and acting as a liaison with the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs in matters of research grants and research dissemination grants. Tasked with archiving researches of the UP Cebu faculty that cover the different areas and concerns in Central Visayas region, it can boast of a modest collection of baseline data on urban concerns, environmental/coastal resource management, arts and culture in Cebu, politics and governance, skills and education, trade and industry. CVSC has also organized training workshops, seminar-workshops, and forums on research and publication, cultural heritage and local history of towns in Cebu, and the development concerns of the region.
